Owner’s Guide for
Bloodwork
ACTH Stim Test –
If your pet has been on Lysodren, do NOT give pill the morning of
testing.
If your pet is
on Vectoryl, give medication in the AM and testing must be scheduled
4-6 hours post pill. This testing generally takes 2-3 hours.
Bile Acid Profile
– Your pet will need to fast for approximately
12 hours prior to the test.
Please take
away the food at 7pm the night before your scheduled appointment.
We will be feeding your pet canned food for
the test. If there is a special food you would like
him or her to have feel
free to bring that with you. Otherwise,
we feed Hill’s Science Diet.
Glucose Curve
– The morning of your appointment do not give
your pet his/her breakfast
or dose of insulin. Please bring his/her
insulin along with you as
well as the breakfast
that
he/she is used to eating.
LDDT - (Low
Dose Dexamethasone Suppression test) No need to fast pet before
appointment.
This test consist of several blood draws though out the day. Generally
here for 8-9 hours.
Phenobarbital Level –
It
is recommended that your pet fast for
8-12 hours prior to the test.
Your
appointment should be scheduled so that it is 6-8 hours after the
morning dose
of medication.
Potassium Bromide Level – It
is recommended that your pet
fast for 8-12 hours prior to the test.
Your appointment should be scheduled so that it is 6-8 hours after the
morning dose of medication.
Renal Profile –
No fasting is required for this test. Please
bring
a urine specimen from your pet
with you when you come. Use any clean
container that is available to you to collect the urine in.
If you are unable to
collect a sample at home, we may collect urine from your pet at the
hospital.
Thyroid Level –
No fasting is required for this test. It
is recommended for dogs that the
test be
scheduled 4-6 hours after the morning medication.
