Tammy

Adopted: November 2003
Number of pets: Many!

Born in Lancaster, receptionist Tammy Rineer has a lifelong appreciation of animals. From veterinary assistant to rescue care worker to surgical aide, Tammy has performed just about every task involved in the care of animals. She joined the PVH staff in 2003, bringing lots of experience and one very huge heart.

With a resume that includes a great deal of rescue work, Tammy admits that she has a particular weakness for “the old and the sick” and forgotten pets that have been cast aside by their owners. While caring for strays may be just a passing interest for some, Tammy feels this way: “You can’t really call that (rescue work) a hobby—it’s a way of life.”

While continuing to foster, Tammy has seen her own collection of strays grow to a substantial (and colorful!) number. Among her personal pets is Angus, a 80-lb Sulcata tortoise; Napoleon, an 100-lb pot-bellied pig; and Frankie, a lost parrot that enjoys telling his canine housemates to “Sit!”.

In the unlikely event that Tammy has a free moment to herself, she enjoys books, movies, and crafts. Her favorite movie star is Gerard Butler, and her favorite craft is sewing together—what else?—stuffed animals!
